Design Engineering Process
Leveraging over 20 years of design engineering process experience, Solid Design brings together the right project management, engineering resources and subject matter experts based on your development objectives.
Our standard process is called a Phase-Gate process because at the end of each phase there will be a Gate Review, where the deliverables for the completed phase are reviewed with you and will need to be approved prior to starting the next phase.
Designing a Product
Solid Design has developed the 8 phase design engineering process focusing on identifying requirements and fully exploring human centred design needs early in the process of designing a product. This project structure is used by our certified Project Managers to ensure performance requirements are met through use of the Requirement Traceability Matrix. Designing and developing a product is far more than drawing cool sketches of what a product could look like, it requires experienced project management and strategic planning to control costs and meet quality and schedule targets.
Technology Readiness Level
New product design often involves developing subsystems using a new technology or a technology that was not been applied in the application required for the new product. In these situations Solid Design leverages the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) approach to reduce risks and cost associated with integration of new technologies.
Design Engineering Project Management
Project Management skills are required for successful projects. Solid Design excels at properly managing the design engineering process. All project managers at Solid Design are PMI Certified Project Management Professionals and have significant experience developing plans, building project teams and executing design engineering project management activities.
Early engagement is a critical success factor. The upfront work to gather requirements, create use cases and interview/observe users creates the foundation for a new product design and development project success.
