MANUFACTURING COORDINATION
Transferring a new product design to manufacturing is a critical step in getting to market of course. Engineers and project managers who are experienced with new product introduction (NPI) will have an appreciation and an understanding of the critical nature of the steps involved. Engaging Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Operations representatives, as important stakeholders from the beginning of the project, is important to provide them with an opportunity to have input on product features and to provide them with visibility of pending production requirements.
Solid Design Solutions Australia (Solid Design) works with your manufacturing representatives from the beginning of the design and development project to ensure their input is heard and keep them informed. We’ll review each iteration of prototypes with them and consult with them regarding subassembly structure of the product, in process testing requirements, fixtures, tools and other capital equipment needed to begin production.
Contract Manufacturer Coordination
Many of our clients do not have in-house manufacturing, for those client Solid Design will manage the sourcing, selection and transfer of the product to a Contract Manufacturer (CM). We maintain relationships with a large number of CMs. These companies each have their own areas of specialization and typically only manufacture products within certain categories or production volumes. Our Project Manager and Lead Engineers will work with you to find the right manufacturing partner for your product, production quantities and inventory management method to suit your objectives. We’ll create Statements of Work (SOW), Quality Control requirements and inventory carrying requirements to support solicitation of bids from multiple CMs to help you finalise the selecting of your manufacturing partner. Once the CM partner is selected Solid Design will coordinate efforts with the selected CM to transfer all Bills of material(BOMs), specifications, engineering drawings, assembly instructions, testing requirements, and packaging documentation/instructions. We’ll then work with the CM to set up a pilot build of a limited number of your product for quality assurance testing, agency certification (if required) and possibly a limited release of the product.
Solid Design has the experience and resources to provide a seamless transition from design and development to new product introduction (NPI) and production scale up. Solid Design efficiently procures, plans, arranges assembly/test, and delivers on-time, whether you’re prototyping, building for Beta testing, or fulfilling production requirements.
