Situation:
More than 18 million men suffer from erectile dysfunction. The people over at Global Health & Innovation LLC (GHI) wanted to impact that number in a positive way. They had an idea and expertise in the technical aspects, but couldn’t perform the fi nal design. Driven by the urge to help men, GHI turned to Solid Design Solutions (Solid) for help

Process:
"GHI approached the Solid Team for help developing the device to bring their idea to life. Working with Solid’s electrical engineers and industrial designers, functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements were identified and strategies were generated to meet those requirements. Working within these requirements, the Solid Team developed numerous concepts.
Once a preferred concept was chosen, a detailed 3D model was created of all the product components. This allowed us to discuss the strategic design and manufacturability trade-offs with the GHI Team and our manufacturing partners. The resulting detailed designs enabled us to estimate the complete manufactured cost of the product.
After the 3D model had been approved, prototypes were made for assessment and testing. We continued to refine the design until the functionality, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements were met before we moved on to finalize the design."
Solution:
"This vacuum-assist device effectively treats erectile disfunction resulting from a variety of biological causes. Customized therapies can be installed in the device by the patient’s physician to be self-administered even by patients with dexterity limitations. Both rechargeable and AAA battery driven versions were developed, as well as a base-model with out customizable therapies.
The final product is the GHI ErectMax. This innovative device helps restore a man’s ability to maintain an erection. Using cold air induction on strategic locations, the ErectMax stimulates blood fl ow and increases sensitivity to enable restore normal sexual function."
