Situation:
Client came to Solid with an old prototype design that needed to updated controls and a new user interface. This proprietary tool is used for in-line measurement of static field strength on web handling manufacturing systems. The unit is held in close proximity to the desired material and digitally displays the static charge magnitude. The tool is stored and transported in a ruggedized case with custom cut foam inlays. The case has pockets for the tool and additional items.

Process:
Solid began this product update project in the concept phase by redesigning from a first prototype version of the tool. Solid was responsible for developing the form fit and function of the unit, setting cost expectations and sourcing all components. A new control system and user interface was developed by Solids electrical engineers and our mechanical engineers documented the updated design in 3D CAD software.
Solution:
The updated design of the tool was now ready. Solid selected of a printed circuit assembly house for creating the control board, negotiated with purchased part suppliers and procured custom parts as needed. Solid also assembled production run of the tool, performed testing to confirm all functions were operational and shipped the tools to client locations.
