Situation:
Identix Corporation desired that a new adjustable height Booking Station be developed for Police Departments around the US. The new product needed to integrate the finger printing 'Deck' previously designed by Solid. Raising and lowering the finger printing area needed to be straightforward and easy to use. The station also needed to be strong and robust enough for the rough treatment that a police booking station can be exposed to.

Process:
Solid participated from the gathering of requirements to conceptualizing solution options through to production start up at a selected contract manufacturer. Working closely with our Client, Solid followed our Phase Gate Process for product design and development. Involvement included all mechanical engineering and project management. Our engineers and designers first developed and then refined options for raising and lowering the deck finally selection the closed loop hydraulic actuators driven by a manually operated crank. The Detailed Design Phase followed with the full engineering development in 3D CAD software. With our Client's approval of the design Solid created full sets on engineering drawings for all custom components and assemblies. Solid solicited quotations for purchased and fabricated parts, coordinated supplier selection and performed procurement support. Solid also coordinated supplier selection, tooling build and prototype debug, sampling and all product testing.
Solution:
The new Booking Station filled a big gap in the product offering from Identix Corporation allowing them to better penetrate the law enforcement market. When you're invited in to have your finger prints taken, this may by the Booking Station you see!
